As an attempt to improve my skills and occupy my free time, I have decided to do the third exercise of the Weekly Product Design series: Design a feature for Airbnb that allows a group of friends to plan and book their mutual vacation.
I'll describe my process during this week keeping it short and simple.
To help me organize this project, I did a research plan to define which research methods that would provide me with the data I needed as soon as possible. This research should tell us the user's pain points, improvements and maybe hint on the feature aspect.
A competitor analysis between Airbnb app and Hopper, Tripadvisor, Get Your Guide, Booking and Kayak, I came to realize that only Kayak and Tripadvisor offered such a feature, the latter with the plus of giving the user the ability to plan their trips day by day.
Sending online surveys would be great to collect demographic data, but I would need some time to gather a certain amount of answers. Instead, I turned to other people's researches for a better understanding of the audience.
In one of those researches, the author was able to prove that 50% of the users travel with other people. And because of that, it would be useful if they were able to plan the trip together. This paint point occurred in more than one research, proving that such a feature could improve the user's experience.
On the first screen, the user can create a trip and invite friends and also accept invitations.
On the second, the user can check which stays were suggested and vote for them so they can book.
The third screen shows featured experiences and the ones suggested by friends, and then again, they can vote.
The last one shows a day by day plan so the group can better organize their time, if they wish.
